Do vets recommend CBD oil for dogs?

We have a popular guide about CBD oil for dogs, where we recommend CBD products that you can use for dogs and where to buy them from. But although CBD for dogs has grown in popularity among dog owners, many vets remain hesitant about using the compound.

We think that this is partly justified - after all, the CBD industry here in the UK is an absolute minefield to navigate when trying to find products for humans let alone dogs. But it's worth remembering that dogs have endocannabinoid systems too, and those systems can be stimulated by CBD products in the same way that human endocannabinoid systems can be stimulated. We wanted to highlight a few examples of vets in the UK that don't recommend CBD for dogs, and a few that do. Hopefully this will help to highlight how difficult it is to know what to do as a dog owner at the moment. Let's get into it:

Vets that endorse the use of CBD for dogs

There are some UK-based vets that have endorsed the use of CBD for dogs, but because CBD is more popular in the USA we'll also be referring to vet resources from across the pond too. Let's get into it:

London Vet Rehab

Laura from London Vet Rehab took a deep dive into the benefits of CBD for animals in this post on their website. Laura outlines how CBD helps animals and it's great to know that a member of the team knows their stuff about CBD. Read the full post here.

Rochford Veterinary Surgery

Rochford Veterinary Surgery also posted an article on their website outlining their thoughts on CBD for dogs, with the author stating that although CBD has been shown to help some dogs with epilepsy, it can cause side effect such as diarrhea and decreased appetite. Read the full post here.

Small Door Veterinary

Small Door Veterinary is based in Manhattan and the team there has published a guide that outlines the benefits and risks to consider when giving your pet CBD. It's a great guide and even includes a product recommendation. Read the full post here.

Vet Times

Vet Times isn't a veterinary but it is a very popular vet publication here in the UK, and they've published a few articles about the benefits of CBD for dogs. An article they published last year referenced a Texas study that demonstrated how CBD can help treat canine OA pain. Read the full post here.

In Conclusion

It's great to see vets from across the world giving CBD their endorsement, definitely visit their websites to see what they say in full!
