We're big fans of CBD (as you might expect), but there is a rather big problem with this magical compound - it tastes pretty bad.

For many people, the taste is enough of a barrier to prevent them from ever taking consuming CBD oil consistently. For this reason, we recommend people who can't stand the taste to consume CBD capsules instead.

But which is better - CBD oils or CBD capsules? Hopefully this guide will help you choose between these 2 types of CBD products.

What are the benefits of using CBD capsules instead of CBD oils?

Despite declaring ourselves to be CBD oil purists, we must admit that we have a bit of a soft spot for CBD capsules.

In fact, we have a page that outlines the best CBD capsule brands that we've tried, and it has a bigger selection than our CBD oil page!

So why might you want to use CBD capsules instead of CBD oils? Let's outline the benefits:

No taste

We've mentioned it already, but the main benefit of CBD capsules is that you don't have to deal with the taste like you do with CBD oils. For some people, this is enough to justify ditching their CBD oil.

More convenient

We'll admit it - CBD oils are pretty inconvenient. Even if you have a spray bottle, you still need to fiddle around quite a bit to make sure the CBD lands where it needs to. With a CBD capsule, you just pop it in your mouth and you're good to go.

Easier to dose

This is an often-overlooked benefit of CBD capsules, but it's important to mention. Unless you've got a really steady hand, it's likely that occasionally with a CBD oil, you might measure out the wrong dosage of CBD. For example, you might drop an extra droplet of CBD oil into your mouth or press a little too softly on the spray and then mess up your dosage. With CBD capsules, you get exactly the same dosage of CBD with every mouthful.

What are the benefits of using CBD capsules instead of CBD oils?

Sublingual Absorption

This is the main reason why we're such big advocates of CBD oils over CBD capsules - because of sublingual absorption. This just means that you can use the dropper of a CBD oil to drop the oil under your tongue and then hold it there, to allow the CBD to quickly enter your bloodstream through the thin skin there. This isn't possible with a CBD capsule, which is swallowed down to the stomach and then absorbed from there (which isn't as effective and takes much longer).

Better value

Generally speaking, you'll be able to pick up a CBD oil at a better price than CBD capsules. This is because there is usually much more work involved in creating the capsules versus a CBD oil. For some people, this won't be a deal-breaker, but it's always good to try and buy CBD products at a good price (nobody likes getting ripped off right?).

Placebo effect

This is something that a lot of CBD brands don't like to talk about, but it's very real - there is a placebo effect involved with CBD products, and the bad taste of a CBD oil actually adds to the effect! Various medical studies have shown that the Placebo effect can have a very real impact on the effects of products that you're consuming, so why would you want to remove the potential for the Placebo effect to help you? Sometimes things that are good for you taste bad, and sometimes that's a good thing.

In Conclusion

Both CBD capsules and CBD oils are great, but it can be hard to choose between the 2. Hopefully this guide helps you decide which is better for you!
